Publisher's Synopsis
Lester Groves was a 19-year-old Kentucky farm boy who was engaged to be married and looking forward to beginning the next stage of his life when he was drafted into service during World War II. After leaving home for the U.S. Army, he wrote a stream of letters documenting his experiences from basic training to the Battle of Hürtgen Forest in Nazi Germany.
This book contains more than fifty of his transcribed letters, descriptions, images, and reports that provide a window into his time and his life. Because his story is similar to many others who served, Lester's Story is told not just for him, but for all of those whose stories go untold.
