Der Schwere sind bekanntlich alle irdischen Stoffe unterworfen. 251 Das Gewicht giebt uns das sicherste Urtheil uber die Grosse ihrer Massen. Nun, wie gross die Veranderungen sein mogen, welche ein Korper er fahrt, sei es in Beziehung auf Form oder aussern Zustand, sei es auf innere oder chemische Beschaffenheit, sein Gewicht bleibt davon unbe ruhrt. Z. B. Ein Gramm Wasser bewahrt dasselbe Gewicht, wenn es in der Kalte zu Eis erstarrt, oder wenn es durch Erhitzung in Dampf ver wandelt wird, oder auch wenn man es Verbindungen mit irgend ande ren Korpern eingehen lasst. Wird es endlich in seine Grundbestand theile zerlegt, so erhalt man von diesen solche Mengen, dass sie zusammen ein Gramm wiegen.
