Gem's abusive father left her no choice, so she left her small town of Hillsboro alone and traveled to the big apple, New York City. Abandoned and alone, Gem's only option was to turn to the local church where she met an angel.
Gem finds herself visiting her past more often than she would like, too many familiar faces are beginning to rise all at once. Not all are familiar; she then runs into Monte, a man who knows pain all too well. When Monte met Gem, he was stuck in a routine that undermined his character. It was she who woke him to a brighter morning, shoving black coffee down his throat, making him realize being alone wasn't his last hope.
A closet that hasn't been opened in nearly a decade is bound to be full of broken bones. Monte soon realizes she's one 'Gem' that can't be bought, and a simple envelope can change her life forever.
