Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Lectures on the History of the Nineteenth Century: Delivered at the Cambridge University; Extension Summer Meeting; August 1902
The central design of this series of historical lectures was the treatment of recent developments in the principal countries of Europe by natives of those countries, in order that the most intimate and essential points of view might be presented. Some aspects of recent international history were also handled by lecturers who had given special study to those topics.
In order to give these essays a wider and more permanent value, the Syndics of the University Press decided to publish them, with the kind permission of the writers.
