Ermutigt durch den Erfolg wandte sich Sulla nun wieder der Best�rmung des Pir�us zu. So oft seine Maschinen und Minen Teile der Befestigungen zum Einsturz gebracht hatten, fand er hinter denselben neu angelegte Werke. So unerm�dlich war aber der Eifer, so gewaltig die Tapferkeit der R�mer, dass Archelaus doch endlich nach Munychia, dem �usserten Teil der Festung, sich zuruckziehen musste; dieses letzte Bollwerk, durch eine schmale Landenge mit dem Pir�us zusammenh�ngend und auf drei Seiten vom Meere umspult, konnte nur mit Hilfe einer Flotte erobert werden.
