Excerpt from Le Forestier's Relation: Autobiography And Voyages Of Fran�ois le Forestier (1749-1819), A Refugee From Mauritius And A Teacher In New England; A Recently Discovered Manuscript
Portland papers of 1812 there was found Mr. Le Forestier's advertisement as a teacher of French. In two places he ad dresses the young lady for whom he wrote as Mlle. Cobb. He mentions that he has a son who was educated at the Phillips Academy, Andover; and Mr. Stearns, the present principal, has been kind enough to ascertain for me the dates of entrance and leaving of the young man. But at length, through the kindness of the Hou. John Hay, our consul at Mauritius was pressed into the service, and procured valu able information concerning Le Forestier's connection with that colony.
