Publisher's Synopsis
General Douglas MacArthur once said, "I hold no branch in higher esteem than the Merchant Marine Services."
Jake, Donnie, and Ted enter the Merchant Marine in 1942. Crewing aboard an ocean-going tug instills in them a false sense of security. Hopes their vessel will stay out of harm's way are dashed when the Point Defiance is ordered to tow a floating dry-dock to New Caledonia. Forewarned by a spy network, the Imperial Japanese Navy is on the lookout for the tug. With the help of a young IJN pilot, a Japanese submarine finds then sinks the Desolation Inlet. Only a few survive..
War changes people - for those fortunate enough to survive it. Many who served in the Merchant Marine during the Second World War did not.
