This volume examine some of the new possibilities within cross-linguistic research offered by computerized bi-lingual text corpora. Three types of bi-lingual corpora are discussed: parallel corpora, translation corpora, and learner corpora. Special attention is paid to methodological issues such as the compilation of bi-lingual corpora, the reliability of translations and parallel texts, text encoding and alignment, and the development of tools for computer-aided translation. In addition, the volume presents several research projects as well as empirical studies focusin gon lexical, grammatical and discoursal contrasts between English and other, mainly Scandinavian, languages.
