These volumes contain the Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Langmuir-Blodgett Films, Tsukuba, Japan, April 24-29, 1989. Since the 1st International Conference on Langmuir-Blodgett Films in 1982, understanding of these ultrathin films has progressed remarkably as a great variety of new and powerful characterization techniques has been developed.
