This is a study of oil workers in Nigeria, showing their daily confrontations with the neo-colonial state and foreign capitalists. It reveals how they devise and execute survival strategies in a state which is almost totally dependent on oil rents, and for oil corporations whose main motive is to the maximization of profits and control of the market.;The book challenges assumptions about transnational capital, labour in the neo-colonial state, and the political economy of peripheral social formations.
