Suivant la méthode adoptée pour l'ensemble de l'ouvrage, les parties différentes du sujet ont été réparties entre des écrivains différents. L'histoire de Napoléon n'a donc point été racontée, de son commencement à la fin, par un seul, elle a été divisée entre plusieurs.
