IV, yet we shall probably never be able to ascertain, from accurate data, whether the real motive is that which the Ingenious novelist has assigned to him. Notwithstanding this difficulty, which stands in the way of all Historical research, it is our duty to neglect no opportunity of adding to the number of the ancient contemporary records, by which alone we can hope to increase our knowledge of past events, and to dissipate the Obscurity by which they are naturally surrounded.
