At the beginning of the nineties, after many years of intensive archaeological research in Northern Mesopotamia, partially enhanced by the salvage operations connected with the construction of dams on the Habur and the Euphrates, it was important to start to evaluate the results of these works in a global and historical perspective. This book, containing almost thirty articles, with a complete bibliography and illustrations, represents the first effort of synthesis of the research programs developed in these last years in Northern Syria, and it offers an interesting view on the historical debate still going on.
