Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from LXXXVI Catalog: The R. Taylor Collection and Other Consignments of Interesting and Valuable Coins and Currency, Together With the C. E. Briggs Collection of Lesher Dollars; All to Be Sold Without Reserve at Auction (All Bids by Mail), Tuesday, November 8, 1932
The following is the most unusual collection that I have ever catalogued. It is a numismatic collection formed to illus trate the various metals out of which coins have been made. This collection was formed by one of the greatest metallurgic and precious stone experts in the world. This identical collection together with his collection of precious stones, was exhibited at the World's Fair in Chicago in 1892. His entire collection was purchased by the Field Museum of Natural History. The Col lection of precious stones has been and is now on exhibit at that institution. But as the Field Museum is devoted exclusively to natural history, they decided to dispose of these coins.
Am cataloging them just as I received them. No attempt has been made to assort them. Each coin has its original dis play tab. It is well for you to watch the following descriptions carefully, as there are some most interesting as well as very rare pieces sandwiched in with ordinary coins, but all are of historic and numismatic interest.
