Publisher's Synopsis
Within human history a multitude of various plays and games can be found. To some extent play seems to be both, a constitutive part as well as a basic phenomenon of human culture; and since religion forms a cultural system it clearly inheres playful elements. Against this background, all contributors of this volume undertake to analyse and describe different kinds of intertwinings of play and culture. From the different perspectives of theology, philosophy and cultural studies they consider questions like whether there is a moral, even religious dimension in play and game and if so, how it does shape individual and communal life.
