The entry into Italy in May 1915 opened a new front in southern Europe, which was long neglected by the history of war. Hundreds of years after the start of the First World War, this volume therefore makes an important contribution to the analysis of the Austro-Italian war in the Alps and on the Isonzo. Historians from Austria, Germany and Italy, each in parallel stories, deal with six central subject areas the history of the world war in the two states: the role of government and politics, military warfare, the experience of soldiers, the history of social mobilization and propaganda, as well as war memory and historiography to the present day.
