This compendium of a wide variety of active projects applying knowledge based systems (KBS) within administrative government has been compiled by the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency in London. It has included contributions from the USA, Sweden and Denmark, as well as the UK, to give a broad overview of current progress.;A feature of this volume is detailed coverage of three successful systems currently in widespread operation, including the first live system in use in UK government, and the first in Danish government. Other potential "firsts", including the US Internal Revenue Service system application, and the SAFAD PLUTO system for the Swedish government, are reviewed at length. The text reflects the work being undertaken world-wide in the improvement of government administration, using the new AI and expert systems technologies. The CCTA's experience in the effective planning, implementation and use of information technology is reflected in the careful collation and presentation of this valuable work.
