Publisher's Synopsis
Knapper's Quarterly is a publication "for and about the knapper" as well as for those who collect and appreciate the art of flintknapping; an ancient skill that is still practiced today by many people around the world that involves the chipping of lithic or other materials to produce replicas of arrowheads, knives, and other stone tools. More recently, there is also a growing trend in this endeavor to produce forms known as eccentrics that are considered unique and magnificent works of art. This publication should be of interest to knappers, collectors of chipped stone work, archaeologists, scholars, students, outdoorsmen, survivalists, jewelry makers, artists, etc. In summary, this journal presents articles on a wide variety of topics related to flintknapping and profiles of various knappers from around the world. The articles and profiles herein are contributed by members of the knapping community.Knapper's Quarterly Number 3, Fall 2016 (Volume 2, No. 2) includes the following articles: The Pen is Mightier than the Stone by Robert Ratliff; Working with Stone by Duffy Snow, Knapper's Elbow by Michael Miller as well as two knap-in reports: (1) the 17th Annual (2106) North Georgia Knapsack-in and Primitive Arts Festival by Brian Wood, and (2) the Fall 2016 Flint Ridge Knap-in by Dwayne Earnhardt. Additionally, this issue features profiles of the following knappers: Douglas Alcorn, Johnny Corley of JC Flintknapping, Jason Harris, Jeremy Parker of Broad River Knapping, Brian Perrin, Derrick Priest, Tim Rahrig, Mike Simpson (Urban Knapper), Brad Smith of Majestic Willow Works, Spencer Walton, and Peter Wiking.
