A few lion facts: Males weigh 550 pounds or more. They're quite social, living in prides that include females and their cubs and a few males. Am adult lion's roar can be heard as far away as 5 miles. They sleep 16 to 20 hours a day hunt during the night with their excellent night vision. Females are the primary hunters, working in groups while their male counterparts work guard duty and protect the pride. Each adult needs between 11 lbs. (females) to 15 lbs. (males) per day. Their lifespan is 12-16 years, but up to 25 years in captivity. Sadly, they're on the brink of extinction in Africa with only 30K - 100K still in existence, while Asiatic lions are in even worse shape with just 350 total still in existence.
