Publisher's Synopsis
The purpose of this series, as Shaykh Moustapha aptly states, is to demonstrate how "Senegalese, Africans, African Americans, and Europeans alike have been, historically and religiously, greatly misled." In this series, Shaykh Moustapha sets out his argument that the missing administrative reports from the colonial archives of 1895-1902 are not coincidental but part of a conspiracy to cover up the miraculous events that took place during the period of Shaykh Ahmad Bamba's exile.
In addition to a detailed geopolitical and historical context, which is particularly helpful for readers who are unfamiliar with the Sufi order, Shaykh Moustapha provides extensive colonial documents to support his argument. These volumes cover part of the period of exile in Gabon, to which Shaykh Moustapha personally traveled to conduct field research for the books but also deal with Shaykh Ahmad Bamba's exile to Mauritania, his return to Senegal, and the period after he passed away.
