Of course it isn't just pots although this look back at Chris Carter's career at 70 does indeed have many pictures of his creations. Amazing pots they are too - Lucie Rie described them as being technically better than her own and there are two examples in the Sainsbury Collection. but if the book were just images of ceramics it wouldn't do justice to Chris, whose career has taken several twists and turns over half a century and whose own story is every bit as interesting as his work. His early years on farms, making pots at a theme park, a disastrous fire, his friendship with Lucie Rie, his love of archaeology and how it has inspired some of his work - these are all explored here, often in Chris's own words as well as technical aspects of his glazes and his re-firing technique.
