It seems that the man upstairs has been keeping an eye on Fred - an avowed agnostic - all along and can't resist weighing in on the story. With a dry wit, memorable characters and keen storytelling Fred recounts growing up in Houston in the 1930's, flying combat in a B-24 in the Central Pacific during World War II, meeting and marrying the love of his life in Mexico City, his career in advertising and his many adventures along the way. With a religious upbringing Fred understands that God created man in his own image, so he naturally assumes they can talk man-to-man. It doesn't quite work that way, but God does turn out to be very human.
