Bei seinen historischen Studien wurde Leisewitz, wie sich hieraus ergiebt, auf den Stoff gef�hrt, der seinem St�cke zu Grunde liegt. Kutschera, welcher sich (s. 76 f.) mit der Quellenfrage nat�rlich eingehend besch�ftigte, musste noch unbestimmt lassen, 'aus welchem Werke Leisewitz die Kenntnis des Ereignisses entnommen'; mich hatte schon A. Von Reumonts 'geschichte Toscanas seit dem Ende des florentinischen Freistaats' (gotha 1876. S. 236 f. Anm) auf de Thon gef�hrt, 'auch Rieger (klin ger in der Sturm und Drangzeit. Darmstadt 1880. S. 88 Anm.) verwies darauf und liess die betreffende Stelle daselbst abdrucken. Sie kann in dieser Einleitung nicht entbehrt werden, weil sie uns das Rohmaterial unseres Dramas wenigstens in der einen Form zeigt.
