Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Journal of the House of Representatives of the Eighteenth General Assembly, of the State of Illinois, Convened January 3, 1853
The financial affairs of the state are in a prosperous condition, and with no adverse fortune to check our future progress, we may indulge the expectation that the state will, within five years, be able to meet the entire interest upon the public debt as it accrues annually, without resorting to an increase of taxation.
