Science is an international good. It is not confined by territorial boundaries, nor restricted by the ties of nationality. Nowhere does it stand written that only an Englishman can suitably write the history of Eng land or a portion of it. It may easily happen that a German may have access to sources of English history from which the Englishman may have less opportunity to draw. It is from such sources that I believe myself able to offer not a little which may serve to supple ment and enrich, and even to correct, the knowledge which has hitherto been current respecting the history and the characteristic genius of Wiclif.
