Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from John Ellerton: Being a Collection of His Writings on Hymnology, Together With a Sketch of His Life and Works
I have also much pleasure in acknowledging the assistance I have received from the Venerable Archdeacon Thornton, the Reverend Gerald Blunt, and the Reverend John Julian, D.D., whose monumental work, the Dictionary of Hymnology, has been of infinite use in correcting dates and verifying references.
Nor can I sufficiently express my obligations to the Reverend James Mearns, curate of Whitchurch, Reading, and assistant editor of the Dictionary of Hymnology, for his kindness in correcting the proofs of the first part of the book, and offering many valuable suggestions.
My last, but by no means least, acknowledgment of kindly co-operation must be offered to Professor Henry Attwell, one of the late Canon's most intimate and most valued friends. To him I am indebted not only for the loan of some of the Canon's charming letters, ' but also for kindly revising the whole of the book while passing through the press.
