Publisher's Synopsis

for SATTB and organ continuo One of a series of Dering motets published by the Church Music Society, this is a setting of the opening verses of the hymn attributed to Saint Bernard of Clairvaux which is used at Vespers on the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus. It is typical of Dering's writing with marked contrast in movement and expressive use of the augmented triad. Jesu, the very thought of Thee is useful for any time of the year.
