"Men have had every advantage of us in telling their own story". Jane Austen (1775-1817) was an English novelist whose works, set among the landed gentry, explore with their realism, biting irony and social commentary, the precarious economic situation in which women of the late 18th and early 19th centuries found themselves. She wrote just six novels, the most well known of which is ‘Pride and Prejudice', written in 1813 and one of the most popular novels in the English language.
