The societys journal deals with various issues associated with inheritance and gift law which reflect the current state of research on all matters related to inheritance laws. The journals goal is to present both theoretical essays as well as essays based in legal practice and to that end it also contains the proceedings of the annual Bochum Symposium on Inheritance Law.

Es gehort zu den Hauptanliegen des Vereins, die Verbindung von Wissenschaft und Praxis zu fordern. Das von ihm herausgegebene Jahrbuch fur Erbrecht und Schenkungsrecht will die Vielfalt aller Zugange zu erbrechtlichen Fragestellungen widerspiegeln. Zu diesem Zweck nimmt es sowohl theoretische Abhandlungen als auch praxisorientierte Beitrage auf. Es enthalt unter anderem die Vortrage des jahrlich stattfindenden "Bochumer Erbrechtssymposiums".
