L'entreprise était grande, et eût demandé sans doute une main plus ferme que la mienne pour ètre dignement remplie; toutefois, sans me laisser rebuter par les difficultés, j'ai osé l'aborder. Ce sujet avait pour moi un double intérèt celui ap répondre 'à l'invitation que l'académie de Nancy avait faite aux Lorrains, de célébrer le nom des illustrations du pays, et celui de payer ainsi un tribut de respect et de dévouement à ma ville natale, tribut, qui, pour ètre tardif, n'en est pas moins filialni moins tendre; ce double motif a donc soutenu mon courage dans l'exécution.
