Justice is a political and ethical idea that is difficult to define. Since Plato, philosophers have been preoccupied with trying to understand the correlations between justice, equality, or respect for the law and discrimination, exclusion, and exploitation. Several contemporary proposals for understanding justice follow in this text, but they are far from unanimous. The fourteen brief chapters in this book either follow a theoretical approach to conceiving of and representing justice, or reflect on specific fields in the practice of which justice is being undermined. The essays provide a sweeping view of some of the most relevant historical and contemporary debates around justice: from the abstract to the specific and materialized, from political philosophy to applied ethics. This summary of perspectives about justice offers the opportunity to explore new views about the problem and to discover new points of agreement, controversy, and enrichment. The variety of views and ways of approximating and interpreting justice in this collection reminds us that, despite being a classical theme of philosophy, justice needs to be reviewed and updated.
