She spent 25 years as a 9-1-1 dispatcher in a large metropolitan area; many of those years included training dispatchers and other public safety personnel. Anderson was a paid-on-call firefighter and first responder for six years, which included fighting fires and educating the public about fire safety. With her varied background, she gained the confidence needed to question decisions made by medical personnel. This knowledge, coupled with stubborn tenacity, served her well when her mother was diagnosed with an advanced stage of cancer in November of 2010.
