Publisher's Synopsis

The use of religious artifacts in Foundation and Key Stage 1 learning is specified in the non-statutory national framework for RE. This updated new edition of a classic guide for primary teachers offers six tried-and-tested approaches to using religious artifacts. It gives guidance on how to ensure activities deliver RE effectively and on issues of sensitivity, and includes six stories to use with artifacts from different world faiths. It is illustrated with line drawings and photographs. Chapters 1 and 2 provide general guidance on: the wide range of possibilities for using religious artifacts; how to ensure that the activities deliver RE effectively; issues of sensitivity in the handling and storage of religious artifacts. Chapters 3-8 each explore a different tried-and-tested approach, consisting of: a short introduction, details on how to put the approach into practice using one or more specified artifacts, including lesson plans, aims and learning processes, ideas for follow-up work and a story. The last chapter gives advice on building up and using a collection of artifacts.
