Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Inventory of Documents Relating to the Scrymgeour Family Estates, 1611
Mistakes, especially of date, are certainly not infrequent. Some of these can be corrected by reference to the prints of documents in the Standard Bearer case. For others nothing better than conjecture is available. In undated items it is often impossible to say with certainty what King or what Constable of Dundee is meant; in these cases the indexer has been obliged to hazard a guess, marking it as such by a query.
The inventory makes no attempt at chronological arrangement and even the arrangement by subjects is not uniformly adhered to.
Appended hereto are (i) a list of misprints; (2) a list of writs obviously misdated, with the correct date given where it can be ascertained or surmised from materials within the editor's reach. Where mistakes other than of date occur the text stands as in the ms. Sometimes the index suggests a possible emendation.
