Publisher's Synopsis
Invalidity Benefit (IVB) caseloads have been growing ever since the benefit was introduced in 1971. The main reason for the growth is an increase in claim durations, but the reasons why people have tended to spend longer on IVB are not well understood. This survey was designed to explore the background and circumstances of people who had been on IVB for some time and to identify barriers to returning to work. It provides more detailed information on IVB recipients than administrative sources allow, in particular about perceptions of capacity for work and intentions for the future.
