So wide is this field of research and observation, and so various the sources from which the student must derive his information, that it has not only been found convenient, but absolutely necessary, to divide the science into distinct departments each of which is important in itself, while all combined are essene tial to constitute a whole system, with which he must become familiar, before he can lay claim to the cha reeter of an intelligent and successful physician.
