Publisher's Synopsis
Many centuries ago, a collection of dialects known as the Jin Dialects was formed in the Inner Mongolia steppe of northern China. With the intention of promoting Mandarin learning and pedagogy, Wenxiu Liu has researched Jin dialects and gained a myriad of first-hand information in rural areas in Inner Mongolia since the 1970's. With his daughter Xiaobing Liu's help and support, he published his extensive study on the Jin dialects' history and development. Wenxiu Liu compared the Jin dialects' pattern of tones, vowels, and consonants to Mandarin and noted unique characteristics with its idioms, slang, proverbs, colloquialisms, and grammar. His work has conclusively determined that Jin dialects have unique idioms, which addresses the issue of unknown idioms in Jin dialects as previously thought. In this book the author provides solutions of how to translate Jin dialects into Mandarin by using language comparison and speech analysis methods.
