Publisher's Synopsis
I am pleased to present the second book in the series Introduction to Thomistic Metaphysics. In the first book, I discussed the fundamental concepts of Metaphysics according to the Angelic Doctor. Now, it is time to delve into each of these concepts, specifically focusing on the definition of Metaphysics and the First Principles of reason and reality. The content comprises 15 chapters, namely: 1-The Philosophy of Being. 2-"Beyond Physics". 3-General Notion of Metaphysics. 4-The Thomistic Proem in the Commentary on Aristotle's Metaphysics. 5-The Commentary on Aristotle's Metaphysics. 6-Metaphysics as Wisdom (or First Philosophy). 7-Metaphysics as the science of what is separate from matter (or Theodicy). 8-Metaphysics as the science of Being as Being (or Ontology). 9-The First Principles. 10-The Hierarchy of the First Principles. 11-The Principle of Contradiction. 12-Primacy of the Principle of Contradiction. 13-The Principle of Identity. 14- The Principle of the Excluded Third. 15-The Principle of Sufficient reason. The Prologue introduces us to the significance of this second book, the Epilogue is written to refresh our memory on all the concepts developed, and the Appendix reproduces Saint Thomas' Proem to his work Commentary on Aristotle's Metaphysics. The Notes are abundant and reflect the interest in qualified Thomistic sources and authors.
