Publisher's Synopsis

The first half of this work is an in-depth study of chemical visualization, including psychology, philosophy, art, science, history and technology. Information is presented top-down, from general to specific, beginning with the general use of visualization, through its history in chemistry, culminating in the use of computer graphics to visualize complex chemical structures and dynamics. However, these chapters will be self-contained, allowing non-sequential perusal. The second half of the book is a bottom-up presentation of molecular graphics algorithms. This section begins with an introduction to computer graphics hardware, reviews two- and three-dimensional computer graphics methods with chemical applications and ends with a rigorous presentation of state-of-the-art molecular rendering. A CD-ROM will accompany the text and be packaged with it, containing significant molecular images, animations, and other exciting features.
