Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Introduction and Use of the Graded Lessons International Course: Junior Manual
In 1902 the International Primary Department, of which Mrs. J. W. Barnes was then the secretary, Steps Toward issued an outline of graded supple a Graded mental lessons. They were intended to Curriculum supplement the uniform lessons by giving a certain amount of information and passages for memorization which it was thought that every child should know before he reached the age of thir teen. These lessons, used in thousands of schools, aroused a desire for lessons selected with the needs of the pupils in mind, and at the same time created an increased demand for a graded curriculum to take the place of the uniform lessons, and of these graded supplemental lessons, which were known to be, at best, but a makeshift.
