A lot of us forget that the vast majority of footage we see of Olympic swimming races and events on television is highly slowed down.
If you are ever fortunate enough to witness one of these apex events in person, I can tell you that the swimmers zip by like flashes of light: it is hard for me to keep up on them if I'm running on land, and they are overcoming the far greater resistance afforded by water.
This book is my humble tribute to these icons of the pool: they spent decades getting to a point where they could challenge for a world title, and there are always fewer than a hundred people in the world, at any given time, who are in that elite category.
