Publisher's Synopsis
Jesse Wilder was a captain in the Army of Tennessee when he was wounded in battle and taken prisoner by the Union Army. When the war ended, he discovered that he had been ostracised by his family - seen as a traitor for serving the Union fighting Indians. Exhausted from fighting, he joined other ex-Confederates in Mexico, before winding up in Tucson, Arizona. Familiar with Jesse's reputation, Susan Andrews Lattimore decided that he was the man to help rescue her young son from the Apaches who killed his uncle and abducted him from a stagecoach. Although sympathetic to the young mother, Jesse has to tell her how remote the chances are of even locating, let alone rescuing, the child. But then he runs into a former Mexican prisoner who was raised by Apaches, and a slim hope begins to arise...
