Publisher's Synopsis
In the late fall of 1831, Ezra Stone returns home from another arduous trip to New Orleans, only to be greeted by the somber news of his father's passing and the frail state of his mother, who lies gravely ill in a small, dimly lit room. When she summons Ezra to her bedside, her voice trembling with urgency and despair, she implores him to promise that he will journey westward to the rugged Rocky Mountains in search of his estranged brother, Elijah, whom he hasn't seen in years.
As Ezra reluctantly accepts this solemn task, he is unaware of the treacherous path that lies ahead. Ride with Ezra into that savage land of dangerous animals, ruthless cutthroats, and wild Indians as his chances for survival diminish in the vast expanses of the mountain west, where each mile traveled ratchets up the danger.
