Though the importance of longitudinal research is regularly discussed and emphasized, there is a scarcity of longitudinal studies on human aspects of computing. Even though longitudinal research is rare--and difficult--it can lead to many benefits. Attention to conceptual and methodological issues is both interesting and important for other types of research and for the users of such research in improving the understanding of the human aspects of computing, especially considering the dynamic nature of today's work environment.
