Publisher's Synopsis
This volume gives new insights into current debates, research topics, and research approaches (theory and methodology) related to Women's and Gender Studies in China in the fields of history, literature, law, and sociology. The book's articles reflect on theoretical discourses and gender concepts tied to specific historical and recent social structures and developments, while, at the same time, critically depicting how global influences (theories, policies, and practices) are negotiated and adapted to Chinese local circumstances. The contributions are based on the workshop "Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies - Chinese and German Experiences," held at Peking University in 2013.
