Publisher's Synopsis
The key role of water in the environment is now acknowledged worldwide. As the aspirations of individuals increase while the global population continues to expand rapidly, the unco-ordinated use of natural resources is seen to be at best inefficient, and at worst extremely damaging. The management of rivers, reservoirs and even entire landscapes is needed to restore degraded ecosystems, and to bring water resources to a level at which they can be sustained naturally.;This volume contains the proceedings of an international conference which brought together international experts to explore the relationships between the various water-related activities of man, and to help formulate acceptable strategies for the integrated development of river basins.
