Throughout this book, we will explore innovative animal health and welfare practices in swine production farms. We will analyze how we can minimize the suffering and maximize the welfare of these animals. This book is a step towards a future in which all pig farms are places of welfare and respect for animal life. A future in which every pig has the opportunity to live a life free of suffering.
This first edition contains 4 chapters, the first chapter will deal with specialized management of piglets in the first weeks of life; the second chapter will deal with the environmental needs of pigs; the third chapter will deal with pig health; and the fourth and last chapter of the book will deal with the most innovative management in pig farming. All these managements are focused on avoiding painful and stressful practices for piglets, such as tail docking and surgical castration, providing instead more humane alternatives.
