Publisher's Synopsis
The main topic of this volume is the strategic significance of the introduction and development of information systems in public administration. Four approaches to strategy formulation are discerned. Each of the approaches is illuminated by articles which are both theoretical and empirical in nature. Questions which the book deals with include: - What contribution can IT offer to the modernization of public administration, both in its internal functioning and in a government-society relationship? - What specific factors promote or inhibit the introduction of various forms of IT in public administration? - What impact does the application of IT have on existing power relationships in public administration? - Does the application of IT alter central-local relationships between different layers of government? - What can we learn from different experiences in governmental organizations with strategy formulation concerning IT-applications?
