Publisher's Synopsis

There are estimated to be around 2.39 million people living with HIV in India. Today the pandemic has a new face - high seroprevalence amongst the married women of India. 1 out of every 3 people living with HIV in India is a woman. With over 586 million women living in India, this is a big risk. Almost 90 % of HIV Positive women have been infected by their husbands. This research is an attempt to give a voice to this silent demographic, shy and reluctant to share their views on personal and private subjects like Domestic Marital Violence and Sexual and reproductive health, yet who should be most equipped to deal with the problems and vulnerabilities they face through awareness, knowledge, self-empowerment and community support. This is the demographic of the married women from India. This study focuses on a small group of these married women living in and around an Indian Urban slum in Mumbai. The majority of the prevention programs focus on changing the attitudes of men. This book answers why Women's attitudes need to be focused on to achieve success to win this fight.A portion of the proceeds from this book will be donated and used to help Women in need.
