This book provides a historical background to the country's contemporary economic problems and analyzes in detail the growth, stability and structural adjustment problems of the country during the past three decades including how to create employment. The book examines the outlook of both traditional agriculture and livestock raising and nontraditional sectors, notably manufacturing, in the foreseeable future. It links Lesotho's economic performance to that of the dominant economy in the region: neighboring South Africa. It also analyzes the changes that are now taking place in the regional integration sectors in southern Africa and how these changes are likely to affect Lesotho.
